Answer:

Weddings in India vary according to the region, the religion, the community and the personal preferences of the bride and groom. They are festive occasions in India, and in most cases celebrated with extensive decorations, colour, music, dance, costumes and rituals that depend on the community, region and religion of the bride and the groom, as well as their preferences.[1] India celebrates about 10 million weddings per year,[2] of which about 80% are Hindu weddings.

Typically weddings in India are grand, more so in villages. The question is from the story 'Bholi' by K.A. Abbas, which is set in a village. Bholi's prospective bridegroom was a 'well-to-do grocer' from the neigbouring village, and had enough to splurge on his wedding procession. He arrived on a 'decorated' horse. With him, on foot, was his troop of guests. He had invited many 'friends and relations'. The highlight of the marriage procession was a brass band that had been hired by the groom's side. The band played catchy songs from popular movies and added to the 'pomp and splendour' of the wedding. The party, with the groom on the horse, the enthusiastic guests and the live music, made it a grand show in the village.
