When Sunil Gavaskar was born his uncle, Narayan Masurekar also known as Nan kaka noticed that there was a small hole near the top of the left ear lobe. After the babies were bathed by mistake he was exchanged with a fisherwoman's baby. This hole helped the people to identify him and bring him to his parents.
If providence had not marked him out like this he would have grown up to be a fisherman. He was lucky to be identified and brought back to his parents. Thus he got a chance to become a cricketer.

When Gavaskar was born, Nankaka came to visit him. He picked him up and noticed his unique feature of a hole above his left ear. But next day when he came and picked the baby he noticed the hole was no more there, so he figured out that the baby has been exchanged by the fisherman's, so in this way he was able to retain the identity of Sunil Gavaskar.
