Nehru was a good father. It was in the summer of 1928 that Jawaharlal Nehru started to write letters to his then-in-Mussoorie young daughter, Indira. In his first text,' Nature Book,' he speaks of how life in the universe began. He talks to his daughter about a variety of topics such as languages, business, history, geography, research, epics and innovations in the following letters.

• Nehru showed that his father was sensitive and tried to raise his only son as not spoilt nor neglected. He was not worried with the fact that he was in prison for longer periods, however he wanted to make Indira more independent.   That the pressures of home life were telling on her in his absence he knew and he kindly urged her not to get hot and upset about trivial issues, to establish tension or imagine where none existed.
• When Indira turned 13 in 1930, Nehru started to send her informative letters. Those letters reflected his world-view, which he wanted to convey to Indira. • Nehru spoke with young Indira with love and a deep regard for their knowledge and intelligence treating a ten-year-old child to be the future leader.  Nehru carefully taught the girl that power is not a right, but a privilege, which should be used wisely to protect and support those who are meant to serve and not to selfishly serve the interests of its holders..
