Give him an allowance and make him be responsible for his own purchases of certain things such as food when he goes out with friends, or his own pleasures such as toys or video games. Make him be responsible for household chores such as taking the trash out on a weekly basis when the trashman comes. This will make him be aware of meeting deadlines, in a sense. Be sure to reward him or acknowledge his responsible efforts.
