Petroleum is a fossil fuel that was formed from the remains of ancient marine organisms. Millions of years ago, algae and plants lived in shallow seas. After dying and sinking to the seafloor, the organic material mixed with other sediments and was buried

hey mate here's your answer
Petroleum was formed from the remains of plants and animals that live in oceans millions of years ago.As these organisms died there remains settled at the bottom of the ocean. With the passage of time the huge amount of mud and sand covered them.As the sediments were subjected to high temperatures and pressures the plants and animal remains under went changes and turn into dark colour oil trapped inside the rocks. This oil is called crude oil or Petroleum.
Hope this helps you ☺
