Antonio was unable to lend three thousand ducats to Shylock on the tentative day. For this Antonio was summoned in the court. Portia and Nerissa dressed as lawyers went to the court and seeing Shylock's bond Portia told that he would cut off a pound of flesh from the part of the body he chose but cannot shed off a drop of blood as it was not there in the bond. If flesh is cut off it is quite obvious that blood will be shed.Shylock could not finally cut off Antonio's flesh. In this way Portia saved Antonio's life.
