Answer:Punjab was annexed into the British territories at 1849 after the second anglo - Sikh war . When Maharaja Ranjit Singh died British needs were not satisfied so britisher declared war against sikh . Lord Hardinge fought first anglo sikh war against Sikhs and war came to an end in 1846 and a treaty was signed .the Sikhs were made to pay war indemnity and give up partial territories of Punjab. Maharani Jindal Kaur wanted to gain punjab lost heritage but british expelled her and was send to bananas.This ill treatment was not tolerated by sikhs and second anglo sikh war was declared against sikh but sikh lost in March 1849.
