When Santosh’s mother was expecting Santosh, the travelling holy man assuming that they wanted a son gave the blessing. But to everyone’s surprise the unborn child’s grandmother said that they did not want a son. The holy man was surprised but gave the requested blessing and as destiny would do, Santosh born sixth in the family. A sister to five brothers.
Santosh was born in the Jyoniwas distirct of Haryana. She was named Santish which means contentment but she was not always contented with life. Her parents being affluent landowners could send their children to the best schools even in new delhi which was very close. But due to the prevailing custom Santosh had to make do in village school. She was very different from other girls in a way when other girls wore traditional dresses, Santosh used to wear shorts. She said that if she chose a correct and rational path , others would have to change around her and not her. Then time came , when Santosh was 16 years old, she was under the pressure of getting married. But, yhe marriage was the last thing on her mind. She politely in formed her parents that till the time she does not get education, she would not ,marry. When her parents refused to pay for her education, she said that she would work part time , earn money and pay her school fees. Looking at her interest in education , her parents agreed to play for her education.
