Concept of Swaraj interpreted different by different sections such as in rural areas it was interpreted as a fight against moneylenders and landlords who exploited farmers to pay high interest. Farmers went on strike and demanded reduction in revenue.
They boycotted landlords who were exploitative. In cities students left their schools and colleges which were controlled by the government. Teachers and lawyers resigned from their posts. Foreign products were boycotted by citizens and foreign clothes were burn in fire.
