Prior to the advent of Miss Sullivan into her life, Helen Keller suffered from a constant feeling of anger and bitterness. Being deaf and blind, she felt isolated, which in turn made her insubordinate, temperamental and stubborn. With Miss Sullivan came new hopes, dreams and avenues that were initially considered to be impossible. Everything that Helen gradually learnt, came from Miss Sullivan and she became Helen’s friend and mentor. Hence to say that the arrival of Anne Mansfield Sullivan was the most important day of Helen’s Keller life is not an overstatement; for the entire credit for molding Helen into the compassionate, extra-ordinary human being that she grew up to become, goes to Miss Sullivan’s perseverance, patience and love.
