HEY!!!

In 1789, the French Government found itself in the grip of a huge financial crisis.
King Louis XVI imposed new taxes.
The Thirds estate( consisting of poor people) led a nation wide protest against it because they were burdened with taxes while the First and Second Estates were exempted from all sorts of taxes.

On 14July 1789, an angry French mob stormed the Bastille. They freed the prisoners and razed the jail building to the ground. The Bastille was a famous prison. The fall of the Bastille is considered the opening salvo of the radical stage of the French Revolution.
14 July is celebrated as the French Independence Day.
