BATTLE OF PLASSEY WAS FOUGHT BETWEEN SIRAJ UD DAULA AND THE EAST INDIA COMPANY
THE EAST COMPANY HAD BUILT A FORTRESS AROUND THE TRADE CENTRE IN KOLKATA WITHOUT ASKING NAWAB . NAWAB DESTROYED THE FORTRESS. A SMALL ARMY LED BY ROBERT CLIVE REACHED BENGAL TO PROTECT THE TRADE CENTRE. NAWAB'S COMMANDER IN CHIEF MIR JAFAR AND SETH AMICHAND WERE COAXED TO WORK AGAINST THE NAWAB. THE BRITISH DECLARED WAR ON PLASSEY . SIRAJ UD DAULA WAS DEFEATED.
AS A RESULT , MIR JAFAR WAS MADE THE NAWAB OF BENGAL. THE COMPANY GOT A FREEHOLD OVER 24 PARAGANAS . THE FOUNDATION OF THE COMPANY'S RULE IN INDIA WAS LAID
