1) The Tagore family came up with designs of national dress for both men and womens in 1870s.
2)Instead of combining the western and Indian styles the combined Hindu and Muslims styles in designing the national dress.
3)The Chapkan (long buttoned coat) for men was designed.
4)In late 1870s Janandanandini Devi, adopted the Parsi style of wearing the Sari pinned to the left shoulder with a brooch and worn with a blouse and shoes.
5)Attempts at devising a Pan -Indian style did not fully succeed, women of different regions wore different types of sarees.
