In Indian subcontinent, it is known as curd or curds. Yoghurt is Turkish for milk coagulated by fermentation of lactose in milk to lactic acid, by natural bacteria ( lactobacilli). This fermentation is much slower process than the immediate coagulation by Rennet enzymes.

The curd was prepared for the first time by natural curd of milk. Due to warm climate and proper food source bacteria grew up in the milk in large amount and converted milk into curd.
