East India Company (HEIC) or British East India Company and informally called as John Company.

It was formed for trade in Indian Ocean region starting with Mughal India and East Indies and afterwards China.

Company ends up seizing control over heavy parts of Indian subcontinent, colonized parts of Southeast Asia and colonized Hong Kong after war with China.

Originally chartered as "Governor and Company of Merchants of London trading into East Indies" company rose to account for half of world's trade normally in basic commodities including cotton, silk, indigo dye, salt, spices, saltpetre, tea and opium.

Company marked the beginnings of British Empire in India.

In his speech to House of Commons in July 1833 Lord Macaulay described that since the starting of East India company had always been involved in trade and politics just as French and Dutch counterparts had been.
