The clergy and nobility enjoyed certain privileges by birth. They did not have to pay the taxes which was only paid by the members of the third estate. Also they enjoyed shorter feudal privileges by birth. They extracted their taxes from the third estate and also the clergy took their part of taxes known as tithes.
