The initial belief of the people that the earth was flat was proved wrong by the following methods.
1) Sighting of a Ship :- when a ship in ocean was seen from a far distance then firstly its upper mast was seen. when the ship came more closer then it appeared a little more than the first case. When the ship came most closer to the port then the complete ship along with its hull was seen. This completely indicates that the earth is round because flat earth would have shown the ship completely from any distance.
2) Bedford level experiment :- An experiment was performed using 3 poles of equal length. These poles were placed at equal distance of 5 km. It was noticed that the middle pole was a little up and was looking longer in length than the other two poles.
3) Circumnavigation :- Ferdinand Magellan's ship Victoria completed round the world voyage. Magellan came back to the same place from where he started. This clearly shows that earth is round rather than flat.
4) Satellite pictures :- Images from the satellite have already sent a clear picture of earth which is round in shape. These images cleared that earth is round in shape.
