Under Ryotwari system peasants were in direct contact with state in paying land revenue while in Zamindari system zamindar was paying a fixed land revenue to the State and he collected revenue from the peasants.
Zamindar was the landlord of the area and farmers were his tenant. The system was introduces by Lord Cornwallis.
In Ryotwari system farmers were the land owners.
