Answers
Though I live only 30 minutes away from the town where I grew up, the two cities couldn’t be any more different. My place of birth was a very closed-minded, judgmental place. As I grew up, I realized how much it was hemming me in and I became determined to leave. When I went off to college in Greensboro, NC, I broke away and managed to create my own community here. This city is a much more laid-back, college town with new ideas and progressive ideas (that’s saying a lot for a southern city!) that has embraced me since I moved here. There are lots of amazing restaurants, craft breweries, and interesting cultural events (Check out our Civil Rights Museum downtown!). After college, I temporarily moved back home but returned to Greensboro shortly thereafter. I can never see myself moving back to my birthplace, but I sometimes visit family who still lives there, so I’ll never fully get away.
