Long-term situations due to which peasantry impoverished in France was due to the policy of  absolutism in which monarch holds highest jurisdiction and where that authorization is not restrained by any written laws, government and also due to poor yields which left farmers with scarcity of money which results in failure to pay taxes.

Various short terms reason are also responsible such as deficiency in spending because nobles did not want to pay taxes and due to the occurrence of serious famine which shaped the life of the peasantry a life of toil, suffering, and corruption.
