Russia had two revolution in 1917. From them the October revolution is the important one.
A split was growing among the Russians between the Bourgeoisie who were capitalists and the Bolshevik who were the socialists. They assassinated Tsar and fought a civil war causing the death of many. The Bolsheviks won the war and the socialst union replaced the monarchy

They didn’t take any steps and never made or had a hope in hell of making Russia socialist . If the bolsheviks existed today with over a hundred years of industrial development socialism would still be impossible . The best the bolsheviks could have done was advocate socialism and try an educate the people what socialism is , this obviously they didn’t do , power was the overwhelming factor and any thoughts of anti-statism it help you
