The village feeds and clothes people and the city provide learning and culture. There is a wide gap between the two in the matter of amenities of life. This gap must be bridged or at least made narrow. The villagers also should enjoy some of the comforts enjoyed by the people living in the cities.

The village life of the Harappan people was very different than the city life. These are the following ways by which there was a differentiation between the lifestyles of people:-
- The tools of agriculture were starting to get developed whereby was it was possible to harvest the extra produce and feed the city population.
- The villagers have the capacity to generate food and clothes for the city population.
- The villages became the center point of agriculture and the cities hereby denoted learning and cultural activities.
- The city had important buildings such as the great bath and the harvesting area.
- The city became the hub of cultural and educational affairs.
