total quality management theory was first introduced by Dean and Bowen (1994) .Contended that in Total Quality. Management, there are three basic principles and respective practices and techniques. These principles are:

(1) customer focus,

(2) continuous improvement, and

(3) teamwork.

These neatly correspond to the

underlying theory of quality as discussed.

The roots of Total Quality Management (TQM) can be traced back to early 1920s when statistical theory was first applied

to product quality control. This concept was further developed in Japan in the

40s led by Americans, such as Deming, Juran and Feigenbaum.
