The carbon dioxide breathed out is a by-product of the process of cell respiration, as is water. In this process, energy is produced in the mitochondria of cells. This energy is our physical "life force". Both oxygen and glucose are required for this. Glucose contains carbon. That's where the carbon in carbon dioxide comes from. Glucose plus oxygen produces carbon dioxide, water and energy. When this process stops, the cell dies.

How we breathe?

It is diaphragm muscles that helps in breathing. When this muscle becomes flat that means when it contracts ribs moves forward hence making a space inside the chest.Our lungs expand and air rushes into them.

In the lungs oxygen is passed into the blood streams. And when the diaphragm and chest muscles relax and that's how we breathe out air.

How our body identity oxygen?
It's not just oxygen that gets into the nostrils. It's actually the mixture of gases getting into it. But when it reaches out blood streams then it is actually RBCs recognizing and binding the oxygen to the heamoglobin.
