Square root of a number, eg. 2 can be drawn on a number line as follows:

1. Draw a number line, mark a point O at 0.
2. Now, take 1 unit (with any measurement), mark it as point A.
3. Draw a ray AB, such that AB = 1 unit, perpendicular to line OA.
4. Join OB
5. Now, using your compass, with centre as O and radius OB, draw an arc intersecting the number line at C.
6. Point C represents Sq. root of 2 on the number line.
