Hi friend
Let's solve ur query by taking an example. Let's take √5 to represent on no. line
We'll draw a no. line by marking integers -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. on it so that distance between 2 consecutive integers is 1 unit. On this no. line we mark O and A on points 0 and 2 respectively. At A we will draw line of unit length perpendicular to OA. Now, we join OB. Now taking OB as radius and O as centre we will draw arc intersecting line at P.
Now, point P represents the irrational no. √5 on the number line. Let's verify it.
Using Pythagoras theorem in ∆ OAB.
OB^2 = OA^2 + AB^2
= (2)^2 + (1)^2
= 4+1
= 5
OB^2 = 5
OB= √5
But, OP = OB
Therefore, OP = √5
