take some lime water in a test tube and pass co2 from that if the lime water turns milky then it shows the presence of Co2 and if not then the Co2 is absent.........Carbon dioxide (CO2) turns lime water milky due to the formation of insoluble calcium carbonate, CaCO3. Sulphur dioxide (SO2) also does the same, but slowly, as it reacts with calcium hydroxide to form insoluble calcium sulphite.

A positive test will results in the lime water turning milky.Lime water turns milky as the Calcium hydroxide (chemical name of lime water) reacts with carbon dioxide (co2) to form calcium carbonate which is insoluble in water and thus forms a milky white precipitate.
