Answer:

Iron is extracted from iron ore in a huge container called a blast furnace. Iron ores such as haematite contain iron(III) oxide, Fe 2O 3. The oxygen must be removed from the iron(III) oxide in order to leave the iron behind. Reactions in which oxygen is removed are called reduction reactions.

Answer:

  • Iron from its carbonate ores need to oxidised.i.e., Calcination

E.ɡ. Siderite:

FeCO₃→(∆H)→FeO+CO₂↑

  • Iron can be extracted from its sulphide ore by Roasting.

E.g. Pyrite:

4FeS₂+11O₂→(∆H)→2Fe₂O₃+8SO₂↑

***Iron can be extracted from its oxide ore by the process of Reduction.

E.ɡ. Haematite:

Fe₂O₃+2Al→(∆H)→Al₂O₃+2Fe+Heat

I hope it helps you ^_^
