How we detec saturation and unsaturation of a organic compound in practical?

using bromine water(yello-brown colour solution) , the unsaturated compounds (alkene,alkyne)s are react with bromine water and these colour is disappeared.

saturated compounds (alkane) doesn't react with these bromine water so shows it's colour.
