human muscles can respire anaerobically however lactic acid is produced during this process and accumulates in the muscles because of this the muscles cannot continue working for long they get fat is good after sometime causing muscle cramps.

Over Stretching, extensive amount of work , dehydration etc causes muscle cramps.
When we do extensive amount of work , it results in anaerobic respiration of that part which in turn produces lactic acid and causes muscle cramps .These usually happens with athletes.
