- I was a top player in some popular game. Don’t think about the competitive scene, but rather top 0.005% (actual ranking). I quit League of Legends 2 years ago.
- What worked for me, is that I realised my time is way more valuable. If I just kept playing, I might have been happier on the short term (although we all know league is salty). Instead, I chose to invest myself in my future. I did not start from lower grades, but rather from national olympiads and the likes. I knew I could do more. I used to play for more than 6 hours per day. Nowadays I barely touch games.
- If cutting is out of question, I recommend using games as a reward. If studyijg for yourelf is not enough, study to play. “I will study for one hour and then go play for 30 minutes.” Or “I will study this chapter and then I will be free to play.”
- As others have pointed out, this falls in the realm of priorities. Even if you believe studying to be more important, your mind will almos always choose immediate reward. Just try to postpone it. Study first, play afterwards. Do it for one week, two weeks and it will be a habbit.
