how were Gandhi,s opinion towards Western learning different from that of tagore
Answers
Answer:
Explanation:
Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore both had difference of opinion towards western learning.
Mahatma Gandhi believed that the western learning was a big threat to the Indian culture. He thought instead of bringing benefits to the society it was hampering the society at large. According to him the views presented by western education could bring out modernisation of the Indian people but could fail to educate them .
Tagore on the other hand wanted a culmination of good aspects of western education with the Indian traditions. He believed the potent force of science and technology and even promoted them at Shantiniketan along with art, music and dance .
Mahatma Gandhi during 1942 called for boycotting of foreign goods and even advocated burning of these items. He wanted people to go for swadeshi cloth. He asked students to reject western learning and leave school and colleges and even burn books which promoted them.
Tagore on the contrary believed in universility of knowledge. He loved exchanging idea and knowledge and had a open mind towards western learning. He rejected the idea of boycotting school and college and even the usage of khadi.
Hope this helps.
