Lakes of Jammu & Kashmir are formed due to various geological processes like Wular lake basin was formed due to tectonic activity and latter on filled by Jhelum river whereas Dal lake is considered oxbow lake of Jhelum river.
Importance of lakes
Lakes have great economic value to man.They are the source of income from tourism and fishing.They also regulate the flow of river which help in preventing over flooding.They have ecological benefits.Many aquatic life thrive in the lakes. They are also the recreational spots for tourism.
