For starters, Hitler exploited common problems among the German people, many felt Germany was wrongfully wrongfully punished by the treaty of Versailles. A brief rundown of the treaty had the Army limited, forcing Germany to pay up large reparations and cut off trade with practically all nations in Europe, this of course bankrupted Germany. The debt was so bad that the currency had to be changed due to sudden inflation issues of issuing new bills to pay off the debt.
In short, all this did was cause discontent with the German people. Hitler knew very well of this, so exploited the problems and blamed the government, to Religion, to bankers. He divided people by categories, making them unable to think as a whole thus unable to cast him aside.
Of course the support and power was not always like that, but the great depression hit at the perfect time for Hitler, it made people fall for his statements blaming the governments for the situation, people were desperate so fell into his ideas.
