- The religious sentiments of Indian sepoys were hurt because the British army wanted the Hindu and Muslim sepoys to use greased cartridged rifle guns, these guns had pig fat and cow's fat greased and rubbed on cartridge of these gun which was to be bitten off by mouth before placing it in guns. This was a straight way of defiling the religious sentiments of the Indians as cow is sacred animal of Hindu and Muslim consider pig a dirty animal.
- The British army tried to send Indian soldiers offshore to fight and work under the General service Enlistment act of 1820 which stated that the Indian soldiers will be sent to offshore ,but according to Indian ideology going offshore they would lose their faith and religion.
- British army put many religious restrictions such as banning of wearing turbans, religious vermilion,or any sacred thread on hand which angered the Indians as they were blatantly forced to give up their religion.
