how were that able to suppress the revolt of 1857

1) the revolt was not organised in a suitable manner so it became easy to Britishers to oppress it. 2) it didn't started on the scheduled time , it started before the scheduled time of the revolt so this gave the hint to Britishers regarding a revolution.

Lord Canning took immediate steps and collected the forces from Madras, Bombay, Sir Lanka, Burma and he ordered the Sikh Army to proceed towards Delhi

In Delhi, John Nicholson recaptured Delhi and Lt. Hodson murdered son of Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar and Bahadur Shah Zafar was captured and sent to Rangoon.
