there are so many changes affected the position of the farmers who tell the land for several generations such as

mahalwari system zamindari system accepted it too much because under the zamindari system a farmer have to pay definite land land revenue to the zamindar that's why he has to borrow money from moneylenders and the moneylenders exploited the farmer very easily and their condition was so miserable

in second way the British introduced a law on farmers that they have to do cultivation of Neil and then and the cultivation of neel taken so many time and so many years and also reduce the fertility of a particular land that's why the the farmers who were shifting cultivators has borrowed from their land and and their condition again miserable
