landlords and the rulers had the consercative ideas that if people had their own representation in election then,government could not exercise its full power.so these conservatives suppressed the liberal revolutionaries in europe.

Following are the ways through which conservative forces tried to suppress liberal movements in Europe :

1.  Liberal societies were banned.

2.  Censorship was imposed on material spreading liberal ideas.

3.  The spread of nationalistic feelings were forcibly stopped.

4.  Academicians and teachers who supported or spread liberal ideas were dismissed from their posts.

5.  Liberal thinkers were banned and jailed.

6.  Concert of Europe was formed which amounted to suppress the liberal ideas within the borders of the member states.

7.  landlords and clergy was used to suppress liberal ideas.

Despite such suppression of liberal ideas, the conservatives could not restored the old order.
