Tommy says that hundreds and hundreds of year ago there were old kinds of schools. Those schools also had teachers. But they were not regular teachers,they were men. The school had a special building and all the kids went there and learned the same thing together.

in the old kind of schools all the children together eat, play and help each other to solve their problems amd also the teachers were humans not robots...and it might have been fun..
