A large number of social groups like merchants and shopkeepers, peasants, tribals and even workers were mobilised by the leaders of the movement. Most importantly, it proved that Indians could resist violence with tolerance and courage.
A section of the industrial working class in India participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement. Workers participated in the cause of Civil Disobedience by boycotting foreign goods. However, majority of the working class stayed away from the mainstream of the Movement.
