how will the resistance of a wire change when the diameter is doubled

Resistance of wire is inversely proportional to the area of cross- section of a wire. Therefore when diameter is doubled, radius becomes 4 times since d =2r
so 2d = 2(2r) = 4r

Therefore the resistance of the wire will become 1/4 th of its original resistance.
