The moisture content of the soil is generally determined by laboratory test like over test. This is the most reliable method.
With this, we can place the soil sample in the oven with proper measurement of weight of the soil sample, the container and the lid. The oven is generally kept at 110 degree c. Once the water content is lost, the weight is once again repeated and the moisture content is determined with reliable methods.
No other method is reliable as this method is.
The other methods are like when the soil sample sticks to the hand, it contains the moisture. But these are all crude methods.
