How will you be able to tell whether the material is a solid, liquid or gas??

Answer:

Two factors determine whether a substance is a solid, a liquid, or a gas: The kinetic energies of the particles (atoms, molecules, or ions) that make up a substance. Kinetic energy tends to keep the particles moving apart. The attractive intermolecular forces between particles that tend to draw the particles together.

If you need for just thinking basis then the answer is!

The temperature of a substance determines the state of the substance:

When temperature is below the freezing point of the substance, it is solid.

When temperature is above the boiling point of the substance, it is a gas.

When the temperature of substance falls in between this range, it is a liquid.

But if you need it for higher levels like NEET or JEE then the perfect anser would be the below mentioned

Two factors determine whether a substance is a solid, a liquid, or a gas:

The kinetic energies of the particles (atoms, molecules, or ions) that make up a substance. Kinetic energy tends to keep the particles moving apart.

The attractive intermolecular forces between particles that tend to draw the particles together.

If the average kinetic energy is greater than the attractive forces between the particles, a substance will not condense to form a liquid or a solid. If the kinetic energy is less than the attractive forces, a liquid or solid will form.

Hope it Helps!!
