Many people of the Hindu faith observe Dussehra through special prayer meetings and food offerings to the gods at home or in temples throughout India. They also hold outdoor fairs (melas) and large parades with effigies of Ravana (a mythical king of ancient Sri Lanka). The effigies are burnt on bonfires in the evening.Recite the stories of the legendary king Rama to your children. Tell them that Dussehra is celebrated to honour the victory of the good over the evil. Take your children to the local fairs/melas and have them watch the “Ramlila”. Buy them swords, dhanusha, gadda, masks of various characters etc.

There are many places in  India where Dussehra is celebrated by setting statue of Ravana on fire by Lord Rama. It depicts the victory of good over evil. At cities like Varanasi, Lucknow and Kanpur, Ram Leela is performed on grand level at prime locations of the city
