1) The conversion of ethyl bromide to ethyl iodide using sodium iodide and dry acetone, this reaction is known as Finkelstein reaction.

2) In dry acetone, sodium bromide gets precipitated.

3) CH 3 CH2Br +NaI ⇌ CH3CH2I + NaBr.

b) Conversion of ethane into ethyl bromide.

When ethane and bromine react, due to the dehydrogenation process, one atom of a hydrogen atom is removed from ethane to which one bromine atom gets attached and leads to the formation of ethyl bromide.( the picture given above)
