★ Aniline to phenol -

Aniline is first treated with HCl/NaNO2 to form benzene diazonium chloride.

C6H5-NH2 + HCl ⇒ C6H5-N2Cl

Benzene diazoium chloride on warming with water yields phenol.

C6H5-N2Cl + H2O ⇒ C6H5-OH + N2 + HCl

★ Aniline to p-aminoazobenzene -

Aniline is first treated with HCl/NaNO2 to form benzene diazonium chloride.

C6H5-NH2 + HCl ⇒ C6H5-N2Cl

Benzyl diazonium chloride again reacts with aniline ti form p-aminoazobenzene.

C6H5-N2Cl + C6H5-NH2 ⇒ C6H5-NH-C6H5 + N2 + HCl
