Answer:

You can add across H2OH2O (pass steam over hot pumice) to CH3CH=CHCH3CH3CH=CHCH3 to form CH3CH2CH(OH)CH3CH3CH2CH(OH)CH3, which can undergo elimination to yield two products but-1-ene (minor) and but-2-ene (major) (to eliminate, add conc. H2SO4H2SO4). However, the yield is not so great but it works!

Another way is by hydrogenating it followed by halogenation and finally elimination. You first hydrogenate it by passing H2H2 over NiNi catalyst under heat and pressure, followed by addition of a halogen (preferably chlorine) by free radical substitution (UV at RTP)

Answer:

First convert but-2-ene to butane by using Raney Nickel, Platinum or Palladium as a catalyst. Then convert butane to chlorobutane by using light. Then convert chlorobutane to but-1-ene using beta elimination reaction
