Conversion of ethanoic acid to benzene is a multi step process. The mechanism is as follows CH3COOH + NaOH → CH3COONa CH3COONa (NaOH + CaO), Heat → CH4 + Na2CO3 CH4 + Br2 Heat → CH3Br 2CH3Br + 2 Na (Dry ether) → CH3-CH3 → CH3 -CH2 -Br CH3 -CH2 -Br + Alc.KOH → CH2=CH2 CH2=CH → CHBr=CHBr CHBr =CHBr + Alc.KOH → CH≡CH 3CH≡CH → C6H6 (Benzene)

Benzene into acetophenone.

l have attched a pic for (ii)
