Methanal ( HCHO ) can be converted into propan-1-ol ( CH_{3}CH_{2}CH_{2}OH ) by following step of reactions -

(i). React methanal ( HCHO ) with ethyl magnesium bromide ( CH_{3}CH_{2}MgBr ) , CH_{3}CH_{2}CH_{2}OMgBr is formed .

(ii). React CH_{3}CH_{2}CH_{2}OMgBr with water ( H_{2}O ) , propan-1-ol  ( CH_{3}CH_{2}CH_{2}OH ) is formed .

  • Methanal is also known as formaldehyde .
  • Propan-1-ol is a colorless liquid . It's molar mass is 60.09 g / mol .
