for converting methyl bromide to methane let's take an example of methyl halide in place of methyl bromide....as bromine is also a halogen.....so....

Methane (CH4) can be obtained from methyl halide (CH4-X)by reduction with LiAlH4 or other hydride reducing agents.

X-any halogen.

Methyl bromide ( CH_{3}Br ) can be converted into methane ( CH_{4} ) by following step of reactions -

(i). React methyl bromide ( CH_{3}Br ) with magnesium Mg in the presence of dry ether , methyl magnesium bromide ( CH_{3}MgBr ) is formed .

(ii). React methyl magnesium bromide ( CH_{3}MgBr ) with water ( H_{2}O ) , methane ( CH_{4} ) is formed .

The chemical equation is -

CH_{3}Br + Mg  →  CH_{3}MgBr

CH_{3}MgBr + H_{2}O  →  CH_{4}

  • The molar mass of methane ( CH_{4} ) is 16.04 g / mol .
